Valentine's day has sat in my top two favorite holidays for a few years now, and I promise it's not just because I like chocolate (but that does help.) I've been reflecting on what this relatively minor holiday means to me and I wanted to make a case on why Valentine's day should be one of your favorites too.
Valentine's day is an excellent excuse to do something unexpectedly nice for the people you love! You may think this day can only be special when you are in a relationship. We all know the trope of single people hating the holiday because it makes them feel single and alone. I would like to make a case about why it shouldn't be that way at all! One of my favorite things to do on February 14th was to buy candy roses, heart boxes, or any related red or pink thing to drop off to all my friends! Fortunately, Valentine's makes getting gifts from department stores very convenient. Dropping off gifts makes the day less lonely for you and all your single friends. More importantly, it gives you an opportunity to remind the people you care about that you love them!
Very little is more memorable and fun than going to your friend's house to make cupcakes or cookies or crafts. It is so fun to have an excuse to use up red and pink paper, food dye, and make endless heart shaped creations! If this idea doesn't suite you, there are a lot of different kinds of festive hangouts you can do also. When I was young, and couldn't get out of the house, I remember playing an online game with my best friends called "animal jam" This game always had cool Valentine's events! The options are endless!
Out of all my reasons for enjoying the holiday, I have to say that nothing made February 14th more special to me than my sweet mom, who put so much effort into making me feel loved. Waking up in the morning to a box of chocolates and flowers on my dresser was a kind of magic. I will always appreciate how much work she put into making me feel so special and loved. Even now, when I'm moved out of the house, all the way across the country, she still finds a way to make this day so special. Thanks for spoiling me as much as you do mom! Your one lady who knows how much Valentine's means to me!!
